July 7, 2011

The scholarship is offered to full-time Design for Sustainability students in the Savannah College of Art and Design’s (SCAD) MA and MFA programs. The $500 scholarship is intended to award innovative thinking and action in the realm of sustainability. Trident Sustainability Group has committed to matching the funding for at least 5 years.

“The Design for Sustainability program at SCAD is a great stepping stone for people interested in sustainability, whether in architecture, industrial design or fashion”, said Tommy Linstroth, Principal of Trident Sustainability Group. “Being able to help keep this scholarship in place and hopefully expand its effect and outreach was pretty much a no-brainer.”

May 17, 2011

Trident Sustainability Group announces a new LEED certification – Effingham Career Academy in Rincon, GA.

The Effingham Career Academy achieved LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council, and is the Effingham Board of Education’s first LEED certified project, as well as the first public school in the region to achieve LEED certification. Trident Sustainability Group served as the LEED consultant for the project.

The new school provides an opportunity to learn career skills for students, who can now do so in a green environment. Numerous sustainable features were included such as a 30 kw solar system, low flow plumbing fixtures, super efficient lighting tied to occupancy sensors, and low emitting finishes were used throughout.

“Green schools should be a no-brainer – students are in a better learning environment, and ongoing costs are much lower”, said Tommy Linstroth, Principal of Trident Sustainability Group. “Achieving Gold certification was certainly above what was expected. My hat is off to the Effingham School Board for taking a leadership position for high-performance, healthy school buildings for our children.”

The architect for the project was JW Buckley and Associates, and the general contractor was Lavender and Associates.
